What an odd situation!
I think it's kinda' funny that the mother is like, "He'll have the extra digits surgically removed...". It seems like she's trying to prove to everyone that her child is not 'different' even though, he is. I'm sure it will cause controversy among religious sects and what-not.
They should leave the fingers. That kid could grow up t be the next Clara Schumann. Lemons, lemonade, you know.
He could totally parlay those extra fingers into a pick up line later in life.
And if he ever went blind, he could also read the hell out of some Braille.
